MEET MR. MICHAEL "Mike" LINDSEY
NAMED OSSD SUPERINTENDENt may 2023
Michael Lindsey was appointed Ocean Springs School District’s next superintendent on May 9th, 2023, and took the helm of leading one of the state’s highest-performing districts on June 1st, 2023. Lindsey joined the Greyhound family with over 27 years of experience in Mississippi public education, serving as a teacher, coach, assistant principal, principal, and assistant superintendent throughout his accomplished career.
Prior to joining OSSD, Lindsey spent three years as Assistant Superintendent for Pass Christian School District, where he oversees PCSD’s operations and personnel departments. Prior to Pass Christian, Lindsey was Principal of Gulfport High School for 14 years. During his tenure as the Admirals high school principal, Lindsey was named 2014 Congressional District Administrator of the Year, and 2014 MDE Administrator of the Year for the state of Mississippi. Under his direction, Gulfport High was named as one of the state’s first School of Innovation and was a state leader in developing Career Academies and the Middle College concept. He has also served on MDE’s Accountability Task Force, Rtl Task Force, and Mississippi Commission of School Accreditation. Lindsey’s tenure as GHS principal saw the construction of a new, state-of-the-art high school and career academy for Gulfport students.
Prior to leading Gulfport High School, Lindsey was a science teacher, assistant principal, and successful baseball coach at Gulfport High School and Natchez High School, leading Gulfport to a South State Championship.
Lindsey holds a Master’s Degree in Educational Administration from the University of Southern Mississippi, where he also earned his Bachelor of Arts in Coaching and Sports Administration and Science Education. Lindsey and his wife of 28 years, Heather, have two children, Sara and Caroline. Sara is a graduate of Ole Miss and works as a U.S. History teacher. Caroline is a freshman at Pearl River Community College, where she plays softball. Lindsey has been a resident of the Mississippi Gulf Coast for 22 years and enjoys playing golf and attending sporting events in his free time.
